About Us
Clover Capital is the private family office of Mr Stephen Lauder, an entrepreneur with a proven track record of building and successfully exiting businesses over the past 35 years.
His experience spans hospitality, funds management, real estate and private equity, bringing a broad and deeply informed perspective to investment and capital allocation.
Based in Cottesloe, a coastal suburb of Perth, Western Australia, Clover Capital operates with a long-term mindset, disciplined approach and a commitment to thoughtful, high-conviction investing.
History
Clover Capital takes its name from a family legacy grounded in enterprise, resilience and community.
The Clover name traces back to Steve Lauder’s grandfather, Tom Clover, who emigrated from Yorkshire to Australia, arriving aboard the Jervis Bay in January 1929. In 1948, Tom and his wife Grace settled in Bridgetown in Western Australia’s South West, where they purchased and renamed a local corner store “Clovers Store.” From this small business, they raised four children and became part of the fabric of the local community.
For Steve, Bridgetown and the store played a formative role. School holidays were spent working alongside his grandfather, observing firsthand the rhythms of small business ownership - from early morning newspaper runs to nearby towns, to the daily interactions and deal-making that defined the shop. These early experiences provided an enduring foundation in entrepreneurship and an appreciation for hard work, relationships and initiative.
Following the successful sale of his hospitality business in 2008 and the establishment of a family office, Steve chose to honour this legacy by naming it Clover Capital. The name reflects not only a family history, but the values that continue to guide the firm today: a long-term perspective, entrepreneurial thinking and a deep respect for the foundations on which success is built.
In 2020, Steve returned to Bridgetown and visited the original Clovers Store site, reaffirming a lasting connection to the origins of the Clover name.
